I. During the break-in period of a speed reducer, we should:

Before use, carefully read the instruction manual to understand the basic principle of the speed reducer. Add lubricating oil to the level specified in the manual. After starting the machine, check whether any fastening bolts are loose and adjust them promptly. Keep the machine clean to prevent poor heat dissipation. After the break-in period, change the lubricating oil. II. Precautions During the Break-in Period of a Gearbox

The break-in period for a gearbox is generally within 200 hours of operation, a requirement stemming from the technical characteristics of gearboxes in their initial use. The break-in period is crucial for ensuring normal operation, reducing the failure rate, and extending the service life of the gearbox. Common problems encountered during the initial use of a gearbox include:

(1) Lack of operational experience: Some workers are unfamiliar with the principles of gearboxes and ignore abnormal noises, leading to mechanical damage.

(2) Loose screws: Newly installed gearboxes may experience loosening of bolts due to impact, vibration, or heat.

(3) Poor lubrication: The smaller clearances between newly assembled parts and assembly processes can prevent the lubricating oil (grease) from forming a uniform oil film on the friction surfaces to prevent wear, thus reducing lubrication efficiency. (4) Leakage: Due to loosening of parts, vibration, and the heat generated by the reducer, leakage may occur at the sealing surfaces and pipe joints of the reducer. Some casting defects are difficult to detect during assembly and debugging, but are exposed by vibration and impact during operation, manifesting as oil leakage.

(5) Rapid wear: This is due to the small contact area of ​​mating surfaces and the large allowable torque caused by the processing, assembly, and debugging of new reducer parts. During operation, the uneven parts on the surface of the reducer interlock and rub against each other. The metal debris worn off acts as abrasive, further accelerating the wear of the mating surfaces. Therefore, the break-in period is prone to excessively rapid wear of parts (especially mating surfaces). Overloading during this period can lead to damage to parts and premature failure. These are all common issues that may occur during the break-in period of a reducer.
